Overview

Supporting secondary and post-secondary school educators throughout Canada to attend the annual CWA Educators Conference is a great opportunity for peer to peer collaboration and feedback on Foundation activities.

The Welding Educators Conference Attendee Assistance program was founded in 2015 for the purposes of supporting secondary and post-secondary school educators throughout Canada to attend the annual CWA Educators Conference.

Assistance will be provided by the CWA Foundation for transportation conference fees, and accommodations for the applicant to a maximum of $2,000 per applicant. All original itemized (description of items purchased) receipts must be scanned, e-mailed and documented on the summary page provided. The educator will receive reimbursement upon receipt of these expenses. Alcoholic beverages are not included. Meals at the conference are provided. Should the recipient choose to forgo provided meals, expenses will not be covered.

Applicants may arrive the day or evening prior to the start of the conference and depart the evening of conclusion of the conference. If appropriate transportation is not available until the following day, expenses for hotel will be covered. Expenses for transportation to and from an airport, train or bus station are included. For applicants taking air transportation to the conference costs will be covered for economy flights only. Rental cars are not covered.

Hotel accommodation will be arranged as a group rate with a set deadline. Educators are expected to reserve their own accommodations within the timeline provided. Reservations that exceed the group rate amount will be reimbursed only up to the group rate.

Subject to the cancellation/attrition policy in Schedule A attached hereto, reservations must be changed / cancelled at least 24 hours prior to your expected arrival date.  Should any reservation fail to check in on expected arrival date, Canad Inns will charge one night’s accommodations, and cancel the remaining reservations.

All guest rooms are non-smoking.  Check-in time is 3:00 p.m.  Room assignment prior to this time is subject to availability.  Check-out time is 11:00 a.m.  All quoted rates are subject to applicable taxes which are currently 8% PST, 5% GST and 5% City of Winnipeg Accommodation Tax.  Additionally, a 15% gratuity will apply to all food and beverage charges.  All guest room rates are based on single or double occupancy and a $10.00 charge applies to each additional adult and upon check in. Guests will be asked for a credit card pre-authorization or a deposit for room and/or incidentals.

To be eligible to apply for funding, applicants must be a full-time welding educator at a secondary school, post-secondary school, or school board within Canada.

To be eligible for funding applicants must fulfill the following:

  • Provide a written submission describing the reasons that they would like to attend and clearly outline the impact the conference will have on the success of the welding program, and the number of participating students.

 

Approval of applications is the responsibility of the CWA Foundation Executive Director. At the discretion of the Executive Director, requests may be brought forward to the CWA Foundation Board of Directors for consideration.

All applicant organizations must confirm their agreement with the following expectations should they be a recipient of funding:

  • Recipients must agree to be publically acknowledged and recognized.
  • Recipients must agree to include their name and photograph in any internal and/or external communications or marketing collateral that the CWA Foundation deems appropriate.
  • Recipients are expected to attend all conference sessions on time and for the duration of the session. Participants who are absent without prior authorization or explanation may be excluded from CWA Foundation future funding and notification will be sent to the participant’s administrator.

The Executive Director is responsible to ensure the above expectations of recipients are fulfilled.
